Looks like we've well and truely hijacked this thread.

That looks like fun!  Great to see people really enjoying their vehicles.

Austin 8 isn't that what they called the chummy?

I think the chummy was an earlier Austin 7.

Heres an image of the Austin 8.  I can see how it would be considered a "chick-magnet" - NOT.

We've also got a 1926 Austin 12 Heavy tourer in restoration as well.  We used to talk about the 20 year plan on that project, but I think we'll be looking for an extension.
I love my malawi haps!  (And I suppose some of those tang whitebait are a bit OK).

That's the good thing about it being a mates car. He pays for the car and the speeding fine! And I get driven to the pub and back :-)

i used to own an austin 1800, the "land crab". Paid $60 for it, best car ever!.
The hydroelastic suspension used to leak, the starter motor has missing teeth so you would have to rock it to get it to engage but it went everywhere. I was a mad keen surfer & this thing went up every bush & sand & limestone track down south, it was abused terribly & still never gave up. Got a flat once in margaret river, no spare - a nice old lady pulled up & tells us she thinks her son just dumped one at the tip. She drove us down & sure enough, there in the middle of the stink pond was an upside down 1800. Hows the luck. We grabbed the wheels (& spare hydro suspension), fixed ours up & away we went again.
I loved the way this had seats that folded down into a full bed & even had the roller blinds on the window. I finally blew a hole in the motor & while it still refused to stop, blew far too much smoke (& used 4L of oil per 20km) to bother with paying the rego. I actually sold it to someone that knocked at my door for $80 unlicensed - the only car I have ever made a profit on.
 I miss my austin.

Yet another ripper post from pauls - and a worthy one to mark a milestone.  Congratulations on your 500th post!
